Finnish Psychologist Featured in Podcast on CBT for Tinnitus

We are pleased to share that Kristiina Laakso, a psychologist and CBT-Hear trainee clinician from Finland, was recently interviewed at Tampere University of Applied Sciences for the Boost from Pauliina podcast on the topic of tinnitus.

Kristiina has extensive clinical experience in mental health counselling and is currently undertaking advanced training within the CBT-Hear programme in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia.

During the interview, she discussed a central principle of CBT for tinnitus: that the main difficulty is often not the sound itself, but the person’s reaction to it. The conversation explored how structured CBT approaches can help reduce tinnitus-related distress, anxiety, and fear, supporting individuals to re-engage with daily life, rest, relaxation, and enjoyable activities even when tinnitus is present.

The discussion also highlighted how changes in emotional and cognitive responses can reduce the perceived significance of tinnitus over time, allowing it to move into the background of awareness and have less impact on quality of life.

The interview will be available on Spotify and as a video during the Midsummer week.

We congratulate Kristiina on helping to increase awareness of evidence-based tinnitus care in Finland and wish her continued success in her clinical and professional work.
